Disability/Accessibility Consultation
Ensure your environment is accessible; let all people feel ease and belonging
Many workplaces, agencies, and programs for people of all ages strive to be accessible. Move beyond the intention and schedule a consultation. We will problem-solve and develop an action plan to ensure that all components of your program and space are accessible. This includes the physical environment AND the attitudinal environment including group norms and expectations.
As an occupational therapist, I offer a unique lens that rests at the intersection of the people involved, the task at hand, and the environment that surrounds. You will feel supported as you consider these 3 elements and how they can best promote a culture of access and full participation. This consultation is appropriate for workplaces and companies, extra-curricular programs for kids of any age, community groups, religious/spiritual programs, daycares/schools, and more. Feel free to get in touch with your specific circumstances.
What have people learned through consulting with me?

“Allowing them the space and safety of exploring toys and games in their own way, and in return, playing with them in their own way.“
“Different ways to help children to adapt better in classroom”
“I will be adding this perceptive lens into my toolbox to understand why children do the things they do”

“If a child is exhibiting a behavior I'm not a big fan of, I will pause, observe, and try to determine what sensory input they are avoiding or seeking, and attempt to piece together what might be happening based on context clues”
“The idea that messages received by a child are not always verbal, but they pick up on what is acceptable through your actions.”
“I have a much better understanding of proprioceptive, vestibular, and interoceptive inputs, and explaining body functions to children”
